Plant Jamaica is a eco social enterprise born out of a desire to promote sustainable livelihoods through community farms. The NGO was formed creating solutions that are environmentally friendly
and sustainable, but has evolved into so much more than farming.
Plant Jamaica’s guiding principles are:
- “Eat what you grow” – plant healthy produce, which can provide nutrition for the community which houses them.
- “Use what you have” –Teach the community how to re-use and re-purpose, ideally to create new income streams.
- “Clean up and beautify” – Teach the importance of keeping the communities clean. Create more aesthetically appealing environments.
- “Expand your mind” - Provide tools that can harness innate (or natural) talent within some of Jamaica’s most under-served communities. Education through exposure to new ideas. We strive to connect formally trained artists, artisans, entrepreneurs, business developers to move community-driven ideas, products and services to a marketable and sustainable scale.
“I can say with confidence that Plant Jamaica will create a model of what can be done in downtown Kingston in a cool, inexpensive, innovative and environmentally-rich way that is interesting to all. It will provide a spark and blueprint for others to be inspired and equally as importantly for others to want to lead in other areas of the country where suited.” Andrew Bruce, Founder of Plant Jamaica
